The white orchid was one of my first orchids and suffered some serious neglect. After finally dropping all of its flowers, it has grown an additional leaf. Now that I am trying to take better care of it, I have started to see some more root growth.

I think this is my healthiest orchid. It actually came from grocery outlet 😮 !! After the original buds all bloomed, it had a second surge of growth and grew about 7 more flowers. There is a secondary flower spike coming off the first one, but it has never bloomed. This orchid has also seen the most vigorous root growth, especially the aerial roots.

The larger orchid here (pink flowers I think?) was doing really well until I really overwatered it. I rotted out a lot of the roots and I think I really set it back. Until recently, this one was living in the bathroom. After I noticed the root rot, I moved it to my desk where I was having good luck with the grocery outlet orchid. Despite my shoddy care, it started growing a baby plant (I think?). In the last two weeks or so it has grown a new leaf and a lot of new roots. I think it is much happier on my desk.

The smaller orchid is a bit of a train wreck. I bought it at the flea market for $3. It had little yellow flowers at the time, and just recently dropped the last one. I cut the spike and am hoping for more flowers- but I won’t be holding my breath. There has been no obvious root growth despite the orchid living on my desk (best orchid location in the house!).

My newest orchid! I received this from my aunt for my birthday. I have a terrible track record with this type of orchid (0/2) and it looks like I’m losing one of the bulbs already. The label says to water once a week. I’m not sure how to tell if the roots are happy on this one.

Can’t believe I didn’t take a picture of the purple orchid D: . It had three prongs with dark purple flowers and was really really gorgeous. It just dropped it’s last flowers, so I cut the stalk back. I think I can see the head of a new flower spike already. On the stem it seems like there might be another flower spike coming out, but then something that looks like maybe a root coming out of the same hole? Even though I have had some of these orchids for months, I have not had one grow a whole new flower spike yet. I’m hoping this is the one!

Great color on the flowers. This sits in the window still of the kitchen. However, due to the angle of the house, I don’t think it gets any direct sunlight. This orchid has two flower spikes. One of the spikes has just dropped it’s last flower, so I just cut it back and am hoping for some regrowth.
